Maker's Story
Talouha
Buffalo, New York
Founded in 2018
In 2018 Christa launched Talouha, after a year of learning leather craft through trial and error, other makers, and books. The namesake is a melodic take on ‘to Lou’ – a way to honor her grandmother Louise who was a source of strength and inspiration in her life. Each piece is cut and finished by hand utilizing US sourced vegetable tanned leather because of its beauty and sustainability. She is inspired to make pieces that become personal and intimate objects to those who acquire them and believes that as pieces carried through a lifetime, they become imbued with a history and energy of their own. Her work has been celebrated by the individuals who carry them throughout their daily lives, and included in American Craft Council and Smithsonian Craft Shows.
