Founded in 1890
The Opinel No. 8 knife was invented by namesake Joseph Opinel at the age of 18. This first design was the foundation for the wide range of knives made today. The company continues to be run by the Opinel family, and the knives have won prestigious awards like the 1985 Victoria and Albert Museum for the best-designed items in the world alongside the Porsche 911 and the Rolex watch. The knives have been used by Pablo Picasso and famed chefs from around the World like Paul Bocuse. Each knife is made with sustainable materials and continue to be made in the French Alp town of Savoie.
