Through jewelry Article22 takes a negative and transforms it into a positive. Handcrafted from Vietnam War shrapnel left behind during America’s “Secret War” in Laos each piece helps clear at least 3 square meters of bomb littered land. Together Laos artisans craft each piece utilizing traditional methods like earthen kilns to melt the metal and wood and ash molds to form the jewelry. Transforming the weapons into jewelry helps to preserve local craft, clear unexploded ordnances, and most importantly make the land safe again for the people of Laos.
Be Good Bangle, a collaboration between Rebecca Rusch and Article22
In 2017, Rebecca Rusch releases documentary entitled "Blood Road", which follows her emotional journey as she pedals 1200 miles of the Ho Chi Minh Trail in search of the site where her father a US Air Force Piolot, crashed duringt he Vietnam War. In his last letter home, Captain Rusch had one instruction for his daughters: Be Good. His words are etched in his handwriting. They are the galvanizing force propelling Rebecca to engage in the recovery and healing in Laos. The Lao Translation is written in Rebecca's handwriting bonding the message and the two cultures. Rebecca has teamed up with Article22 and is on a mission to raise awareness and funds for MAG to clear some of the 800 million unexploded bombs in Laos.
